Britain's relations with Russia deteriorated further Wednesday as the UK Foreign Office confirmed the detention of the director of the British Council office in St Petersburg. "We can confirm that last night Stephen Kinnock was followed, stopped and subsequently released an hour later by Russian authorities," the cultural body said in a statement."We can also confirm that our Russian national staff, in both St Petersburg and Ekaterinburg, were yesterday summoned for interview by the FSB at their headquarters and subsequently visited in their homes late last night by officials of the Russian Ministry of the Interior and have been called for further interviews today.
"Our main concern is the safety and security of both our Russian and UK staff and we are deeply concerned by both these incidents."
Kinnock is the son of former Labour leader Neil Kinnock.
