RESTRICTIONS on horse movements within southeast Queensland's equine flu-infected "red zone" could be eased by Christmas.Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin said today the goal was only achievable if all Queenslanders involved in the industry played their part in ensuring all quarantine safeguards were adopted and upheld.
His comments came as Queensland's racing body said more horses had contracted equine influenza in the state, despite inoculations against the contagious virus.
Mr Mulherin said with a horse standstill in place, the greatest threat to equine influenza spreading beyond the red zone was through human contact with horses and a failure to properly decontaminate.
