Hurricane Henriette edged toward mainland Mexico Wednesday after punishing resort areas on Baja California. The eye of the storm struck the Baja peninsula Tuesday and hurled toward the mainland just eight hours after Hurricane Felix hit in Central America -- the first time Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes made landfall the same day, according to records dating back to 1949.At 5 a.m. EDT, Henriette was about 60 miles north-northeast of La Paz, Mexico, and moving toward the north at 13 mph. Its maximum sustained winds were near 75 mph.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, issued hurricane warnings for Mexico's coast from Topolobampo in Sinaloa state north to Bahia Kino. Henriette was expected to drop an inch or two of rain on the U.S. southwest Thursday night.
