U.N. peacekeepers and rescue workers searched for bodies Wednesday in the smoldering rubble after a Congolese jetliner careened off a runway and burst into flames, killing at least 38 people and wounding more than 100 on the ground.Airline officials said most of those on board survived the Tuesday crash.
"I am sure people are buried" here, said Michel Bwinika, a parliament member for the region who visited the crash site. Workers doused small fires that continued to burn amid the debris.
Crew members aided by United Nations troops struggled to evacuate the DC-9 before it went up in flames near a bustling outdoor market. The plane had failed to take off.
