Canada's westernmost province announced a radical plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions by one third over 13 years as part of its contribution to curb global warming.
British Columbia also vowed to create the world's longest hydrogen highway, from the Canadian ski resort of Whistler to San Diego, California, by 2020, as part of joint measures by jurisdictions on North America's Pacific seaboard.
The province's premier, Gordon Campbell, said he would meet this spring with governors of US Pacific Coast states from Alaska to California.
