Forty suspects were arrested and thousands of videos, CDs and DVDs seized in a police raid that was part of a yearlong crackdown on child pornography, Austrian authorities said Friday.Officials detailing what they said involved months of undercover investigation said police also confiscated dozens of PCs, laptops and hard drives in an international operation carried out in cooperation with authorities in neighboring Germany.
Police in Italy made two arrests in connection with the investigation, which was code-named Operation Max, Austrian authorities said.
Mario Hubmann, a senior police inspector with Austria's Federal Criminal Investigations Bureau, said the suspects range in age from 16 to retirees in their 60s, including two government employees and a radiologist.
