A woman was fatally shot on a Fremont street and her companion was wounded in a hail of bullets fired from a car that pulled alongside, police said today.The shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Durham Road near Highway 680.
The woman's companion, who was driving, managed to proceed to the Kaiser Hospital parking lot, where hospital authorities notified police. Both victims were taken to Eden Medical Center, where the woman was pronounced dead. Police were withholding the identity of the slain woman.
Police said the shots came from what appeared to be a dark-colored Honda. Anyone with information should call Fremont Police at (510) 790-6900.
