A squadron of air tankers was battling a blaze burning out of control Monday night in the hills east of Morgan Hill in Santa Clara County.By 8:30 p.m., the blaze, which has been named the Lick fire, had burned more than 1,200 acres of timber and brush near Booze Lake in and around Henry W. Coe State Park. No injuries were reported in the remote, heavily wooded area, although three back country cabins were threatened.
East Dunne Avenue, the road into the park, was closed early in the afternoon, fire officials said.
Park rangers and firefighters from the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection were evacuating some hikers, campers and other park visitors, said Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the department.
