Oakland police were investigating two shootings, one of them fatal, that occurred within minutes of one another in different parts of the city.At about 6 p.m., a young man was shot and injured at the corner of Whitney and 59th Streets in a drive-by attack. Neighbors said at least three shots were fired by someone who drove past in a lime-green colored vehicle and then sped away.
Witnesses said the shots seemed to be fired at two young men who were running. One of the young men was struck in the abdomen and collapsed, witnesses said. The other continued running and fled from the scene. Witnesses said the lime-green vehicle struck five other vehicles while fleeing. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition was unknown.
At about 6:10 p.m., a man was shot and killed on the 3100 block of High Street. Police said the victim was on the street when he was shot. They had no description of the shooter.
