Showers and thunderstorms were to continue Thursday in an area spanning the northern and central Plains. Storms might spawn tornadoes in southern Kansas and central Oklahoma.A low pressure system lingering off the East Coast was expected to continue to produce scattered showers and some thunderstorms from New England to the Southeast coast.
In the West, a trough of low pressure was expected to bring cooler temperatures to the Northwest. A Southwest heat wave was expected to continue with temperatures in many portions of California rising into the 90s and 100s.
