Severe thunderstorms spawned at least four brief tornadoes in northwestern Oklahoma Wednesday evening, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.Tornadoes repeatedly dropped out of a storm that tracked into Major County and slowed down. One twister touched down about three miles west of Orienta around 6:31 p.m. and remained on the ground for two minutes, the National Weather Service reported.
About 10 minutes later, another storm touched down just south of U.S. Highway 412 and remained on the ground for two minutes, the weather service reported. Then, two other tornadoes touched down about six miles west of Orienta, both staying on the ground for about a minute or less, the weather service reported.
The storms formed ahead of a storm system that approached Oklahoma from the west on Wednesday. The system tracked into warm, humid and breezy conditions, setting the stage for severe storm development.
