A gunman fired into a crowd of people at a Los Angeles bus stop Wednesday, wounding eight, including children, authorities said. The incident took place about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Central and Vernon avenues, in an area of the city where police are concerned about gang violence, Lt. Ruben de la Torre of the Los Angeles Police Department said.The shooting happened near a middle school, but not on school grounds.
The school was placed on lockdown after the incident, but parents later were allowed to pick up their children.
The shooting victims range in age from 10 to 68, police said.
