A San Francisco police officer put on desk duty after she was involved in a fatal shooting of an unarmed trespassing suspect in 2006 pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of stealing confiscated cash and trying to cover it up.Officer Michelle Alvis, 30, a six-year veteran of the department, was arrested Friday after being indicted for allegedly taking nearly $2,000 that had been seized during an arrest and was supposed to be booked into evidence at the Taraval police station Oct. 31, 2006.
She pleaded not guilty in San Francisco Superior Court to charges of grand theft, filing a false police report, doctoring evidence and destroying evidence or records.
Alvis' attorney said her client had put the booked money in an evidence locker, from which it later vanished.
