Santa Rosa police shot and seriously wounded a mental patient today after he approached officers with a knife and ignored repeated commands to drop it, authorities said.Police officers first used a Taser gun on the 24-year-old man, but when that didn't stop him, one of the officers on the scene shot him, police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. at 531 A St., where residents receive care from a private company that has a contract with the Sonoma County Mental Health Department, Banayat said.
Police were dispatched to the house after a social worker called them at 12:53 p.m. to report his client was violent, had a knife and was "off his meds," Banayat said.
