The San Francisco Zoo will reopen at 10 a.m. tomorrow, with new signs asking patrons to leave the animals alone and loudspeakers that will be used to tell visitors to leave promptly at closing time.Manuel Mollinedo, the zoo's executive director, said today that the signs and loudspeakers will be the first visible changes resulting from a Christmas Day attack by a Siberian tiger named Tatiana. The tiger killed one visitor and injured two others before it was shot to death by police.
Even though the new signs ask people not to "tap on glass, throw anything into the exhibit, make excessive noise, tease or call out to them," zoo officials wouldn't say that's what happened immediately prior to the mauling.
To questions, Mollinedo replied, "Something prompted our tiger to leap over the exhibit." He wouldn't elaborate. Police have steadfastly maintained they have no proof the tiger was taunted by the victims.
