A motorcyclist was killed in Solano County today when he attempted to pass motorists at high speed and slid on the dirt center divider, which catapulted him off his bike, according to the California Highway Patrol.The accident occurred at 2:55 p.m. when the rider, who has not been identified, zoomed onto the westbound lanes of I-780 just west of the Glen Cove overcrossing, near Benicia, and began passing cars, investigators said.
Witnesses said the late model Yamaha R-1 motorcycle was traveling at speeds of between 120 and 130 miles per hour when it hit the dirt. The rider flew off the bike and hit so hard that his helmet was torn off his head, according to the CHP.
The Solano County Coroner is expected to release the man's identity sometime Thursday.
