A woman riding her bicycle in Berkeley was struck and seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash by a motorcyclist fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said today.The incident began about 11:15 p.m. Sunday when two CHP officers in their cruiser saw a motorcyclist speeding on westbound Interstate 80 near Carlson Boulevard in Richmond, authorities said.
The officers began chasing the motorcyclist, who got off the freeway at Ashby Avenue in Berkeley and headed east, authorities said.
The officers broke off the case because of safety concerns, but the motorcyclist continued traveling at high speed and hit a woman riding her bicycle at Ashby and Acton Street, police said.
