A man shot and killed at the end of a high-speed chase in Pittsburg was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office today as 28-year-old Jerry Richardson Jr. of Pittsburg, a parolee with a history of assaulting and resisting police and stealing cars.An Antioch police officer shot and killed Richardson near Crestview Drive and West Leland Road in Pittsburg about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the end of a chase during which the suspect rammed police cruisers and civilians' cars.
The incident began at 12:45 p.m. in Pittsburg when Richardson stole a Toyota Corolla on the 400 block of East Santa Fe Avenue, said Pittsburg police Lt. Brian Addington. The car belonged to a pizza restaurant employee who had left the keys inside while making a delivery.
Witnesses identified Richardson by name. Police learned that he had been paroled from prison May 15 after serving time for auto theft, Addington said.
