San Francisco officials are working with the owners of a Mission Street building that burned for more than 18 hours to determine when and how the structure will be demolished, authorities said. The building at 1133 Mission St. caught fire sometime before 7 a.m. Tuesday and continued to flare up until 1 a.m. today, fire officials said. Fire crews were forced to battle the blaze from the outside after the ceiling began to collapse Tuesday, sending two firefighters to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were released the same day.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Department of Building Inspection spokesman Bill Strawn said inspectors have determined that the building, the former home of an Irish fraternal organization, will have to be torn down.
