Eight people were shot and three of them died on a particularly violent day in Richmond on Tuesday, police said. The shootings took place in four different attacks throughout the day, starting at 9:45 a.m. in North Richmond and ending with a quadruple shooting at 8:24 p.m. on the other side of town. By late evening, police said they didn't know if any of the shootings were connected.
"There's nothing for us to link these slayings," said Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan. "Unfortunately, we have a high level of street violence, and sometimes shootings do happen within a few minutes of each other and they're not related."
The first shooting occurred at Filbert Street and Willard Avenue, where a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg. The victim was not cooperative with police and told investigators he did not know who shot him, Gagan said.
