Authorities disabled and blew up a device used Tuesday in a bizarre bank robbery in Hollywood, Florida. The device had been strapped to a man who told police two armed men had abducted him earlier in the day from his house in nearby Dania Beach. He said the men taped the device to him and told him it was a bomb they were activating, a spokesman for the Hollywood Police Department said.Witnesses said the men drove to a Wachovia drive-through bank window and, threatening to detonate the device, demanded cash from a teller. The teller gave them "a large amount," said Hollywood spokesman Tony Rode.
The two men fled with the money, leaving the third man at the bank still wearing the device, he said.
Broward County deputies used a robot to remove the device from the man and then detonate it, police said. The man was not injured.
