A 2-year-old Vallejo girl is clinging to life at Children's Hospital in Oakland after she was shot in the head allegedly by her father, Vernon Val Watson, who, police say, killed her mother and then shot himself late Friday night.Watson, 42, who had a history of arrests for domestic violence, died Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, Vallejo police said. His wife, 38-year-old Stacey Denice Owens, died at the family home on the 300-block of Carousel Drive in north Vallejo, where the shooting took place.
The unidentified toddler was airlifted to the Oakland pediatric hospital, where she is listed in grave condition, according to police.
Owens' 10-year-old son escaped the carnage and ran to neighbors shortly before midnight Friday. The boy is Watson's stepson. He called police and told them that Watson had shot his mother and sister, police said.
