Daytona Beach, Fla.
A 10-year-old boy is guilty of beating a homeless Army veteran two months ago, a judge ruled Thursday as the child was in court shackled and wearing an oversized white jumpsuit.Circuit Judge John Watson found the boy guilty of aggravated battery in the March 27 attack in which John D'Amico was beaten and stoned. D'Amico, 58, has undergone numerous operations, including reconstructive surgery to his face.
The boy, another 10-year-old and Jeremy Woods, 17, ganged up on D'Amico as he and a friend walked through a crime-ridden Daytona Beach neighborhood, prosecutors said.
The boy found guilty Thursday will be sentenced May 24 and could be held in the juvenile system until he turns 21, depending on the judge's decision.
