Pakistan recovered to 456 all out after India had declared their first innings at 616 for five wickets in Calcutta.Opener Wasim Jaffer's 56 inspired India's brisk scoring in the second innings, taking them to 141 for two at stumps on the fourth day.
Leading by 160 runs in the first innings, India are now 301 ahead and the match appears to be heading for a draw unless Pakistan's batsmen falter against the spinners on a crumbling pitch.
India lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first test by six wickets, with the final test to be played December 8-12 in Bangalore.
