Striker Benni McCarthy has agreed a new three-year contract with Blackburn Rovers. The South African international has committed himself to the English Premier League club until 2011.Negotiations between the club and player have continued for some time and Rovers manager Mark Hughes said: "I think it's actually done now which is good news for us."
He joined from Porto and last season scored 24 goals. This campaign he has been somewhat overshadowed by new man Roque Santa Cruz but has been on target 11 times and played a key role.
Rovers and McCarthy had to wait for the player's work permit to be renewed to complete the deal, but that proved a formality.
