Gordon Brown will make science a "top priority" when he is prime minister, says Education Secretary Alan Johnson.This could mean a departmental shake-up in how the government supports science, Mr Johnson told a university meeting.
"Gordon will be looking at some machinery of government changes," said Mr Johnson.
An emphasis on investment in science and innovation is set to be the hallmark of education under Mr Brown, said the deputy-leadership contender.
