While she won't face hills or jostling competitors, a U.S. astronaut who plans to run the Boston Marathon in space said on Wednesday she'll face challenges unlike those confronting her earthbound rivals.NASA's Suni Williams, 41, plans to run the 26 miles from her post at the International Space Station, where she has been since December.
She will run tethered to a treadmill set on a gyroscopic balance system to prevent the pounding of her feet from affecting the station's orbit 210 miles above the Earth. The treadmill is a normal component of the station's equipment, where astronauts use it to ward off the muscle loss that comes with living in a low-gravity environment.
