Just hours after officials cleaned up enough oil at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands to reopen part of it to the public, they closed the offshore waters because of another danger - a shark.Two surfers in the water and a third person on a bluff reported seeing a shark killing a seal about 150 feet offshore around 10 a.m. Sunday, said Rich Weidman, a spokesman for the Golden Gate National Recreation Agency, which oversees the beach.
"We don't know what kind (of shark) it was - the girth was about that of three average people if you stuck them together," Weidman said. "They saw dorsal fins."
Just two days earlier, Weidman said, a seal washed up on Rodeo Beach with bite marks on it. While the seal could have died of other causes, Weidman said, officials took note because such attacks are rare off Rodeo Beach.
