HEALTH Minister Tony Abbott has called himself "Captain Catholic" and declared his discomfort with the perception he is a religious warrior.
Mr Abbott acknowledged that his opposition to abortion, stem cell research and the abortion drug RU486 had resulted in critics branding him a zealot.
But he argued his stance on these issues did not "require religion as justification or validation".
