Students evacuated two schools in eastern Canada and a third facility didn't open Thursday following a series of threats, the latest in a rash of such incidents in a country that prides itself on its low crime rate. The threats in Nova Scotia, two warning of bombs and one warning of a weapons attack on staff and students, came just days after a 14-year-old in the neighboring province of New Brunswick was arrested when an explosive device was found in his school.
In Cole Harbour, a note warning of a bomb was found at a school about midmorning Thursday and a bomb threat was called in to a second school a short time later, prompting officials to empty the buildings. Bomb-sniffing dogs found no indication of explosives in either school.
Police said a 17-year-old male had been arrested. His identity was not released because he is a minor.
