The share market has opened flat today, with a slow US market overnight leading to predictions of a quiet day of trading.At 10.15am AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 0.3 points to 5955.4, while the all ordinaries rose 0.8 points to 5936.2. On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the June share price index contract was trading nine points higher at 6007 on a volume of 4963 contracts. Stronger metals prices overnight had no influence on the big miners. Giant BHP Billiton dropped nine cents to $29.17, but rival Rio Tinto rose slightly, up 10 cents to $77.11. In the US, stocks were relatively steady, as investors consolidated Wednesday's gains and reassessed expectations that the Federal Reserve's next policy move will be an interest rate cut. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 13.62 points, or 0.11 per cent, to 12,461.14, while The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 0.50 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 1434.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 4.18 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 2451.74.
